Artificial grass is popular for a variety of reasons, one of which being its durability. However, this does not rule out the possibility of harm. Unfortunately, there are a few things you may do that will have a significant and long-term impact on your artificial grass — and not in a positive way. The good thing is that we’ll go through all of these problems in detail so you can prevent them.
Chemicals that are harsh should be avoided at all costs
You’ll notice that while we never state it’s impossible for your artificial lawn to fade or become discolored, we do mention it’s extremely unlikely. It is incredibly tough, but not impenetrable. There are simple ways to clear small spills, such as paint, off your lawn. However, a few products have the potential to cause long-term harm.
Remember that artificial grass is created from petroleum-based materials, which means it may be damaged by strong chemicals or even oil-based paints. While the equipment we install come with a comprehensive guarantee, it will be reduced if the damage is caused by exposure to severe chemicals. Fortunately, avoiding this sort of harm is simple: keep such materials away from your grass.
Avoid exposing your artificial grass to fire or hot coals
The good news is that the ingredients used to manufacture artificial grass are non-flammable, so it will not flare up and burn no matter how hot it gets. It can, however, dissolve. If you have a campfire or a grill, ensure sure there is a barrier between it and your lawn. This might be made of brick, concrete, or another hardscape material. If embers fall from the fire, they will hit the hardscape.
Allowing your artificial grass to become punctured is not a good idea
If you put stakes or other similar objects on your artificial grass, the mesh backing might become damaged. We can assist you with installing permanent structures such as fences, swing sets, or lamp posts without harming your lawn.
Other things, such as sharp twigs and tree branches, can, of course, pierce your fake grass. This is why, if a storm occurs, we recommend keeping your yard clean and removing debris. These easy precautions might help you avoid being hurt.
Your synthetic grass can last decades
While there are a few things to watch out for when it comes to artificial grass, the same can be said for natural grass. Simply keep these suggestions in mind, and you’ll have lovely fake grass for years to come. If you don’t have one yet, give All Season Turf a call at (866) 365-8873 for a free estimate.
